stump grinding &
removal service

Although stumps can be left in the ground after tree felling, the decision to leave them in situ can, in some cases, be problematic. It’s not just their unsightly nature and potential obstruction of future landscaping projects; the likelihood of the stump forming new shoots and possibly spreading root diseases such as honey fungus needs to be taken into account.

Paying that little bit extra for stump removal at the same time the tree is felled often makes the most economic sense. Of course, stumps are often large and heavy and as such require the right equipment and techniques to be successfully removed. Down to Earth own four specialist stump grinders – two of which are tracked to allow for jobs where access is across rough terrain and our smaller grinder is perfect for hard to reach stumps where access is limited. Our arborists receive regular update training on the best stump removal techniques and how to minimise ground disturbance to leave a completely clear patch of ground where the tree once stood.

All sites are CAT (Cable Avoidance Tool) scanned for underground services prior to works commencing and adequate guarding is put in place around machinery to protect people and property. Clients can choose to have the grindings back filled into the ground as they make a very good mulch product.

Here are some more good reasons to call for DTE stump grinding in London & Kent:

A stump is an eyesore

People pay a lot to have landscaping services keep their yard looking beautiful. It’s a shame to undermine all the expense and effort with a rogue tree stump. Removing it will restore visual and aesthetic order to your property.

Tree stumps are a potential liability

One of the best reasons to call DTE tree stump removal service is because leaving the stump in place creates a potential liability problem. If someone trips over the stump and injures themselves they might be able to make a case that you were negligent to leave it in place.

Stumps take up more space than you think

A tree stump doesn’t just take the area of the stump itself out of commission, it also makes it nearly impossible to make use of the area around it. Even a smaller stump affects a large area. DTE stump grinding will return your full yard to you.

Tree stump roots remain active

Removing a tree and leaving a stump does not necessarily signal an end to root activity. With some species of tree, the roots continue to grow after tree felling. These roots can quietly spread toward your foundation causing cracks, or they may interfere with water pipes, below ground cables or a septic tank.

A stump can undermine the value of your home

Estate agents will tell you that kerb appeal can affect the market value of a home by 10% or more. A visible tree stump on your property could undermine your ability to get the price you want if you decide to sell your home. Call DTE tree surgeons. Our stump grinder will protect your home’s value.

Stumps can undermine walkways

Stump roots are notorious for creating ground-level problems, such as uneven pavements. Not only is a bulging walkway an eyesore, but if someone trips on your uneven pavement you may quickly wind up back in liability land. Call DTE. We'll thoroughly remove any size of stump.

Stumps can attract pests

A tree stump might seem a benign presence, but a closer look often reveals it is anything but. Tree stumps have a tendency to attract pests such as carpenter ants, termites, beetles, wood wasps and more. The termites it attracts can migrate to your home, while wood wasps can put an end to a backyard BBQ pretty quickly. Call DTE for expert stump grinding in London & Kent.

Can’t fault the people, work or company. They worked very quickly and pointed out underground electric cables running near the trees and explained how that would affect the work and their solution.

An unpleasant job, taming the leylandii trees which we had inherited and had been allowed to do their own thing for too long! We are grateful to our friends who recommended "Down to Earth" and we are very happy to say to anyone else who reads this, that from Andy who came to give us a very reasonable estimate, and Frankie's team who did skilful and beautiful job, we couldn't be happier. Very nice people too!

Another excellent job from Down to Earth trees. They have carried out all pruning and planting a new hedge in my garden for many years and I would never use anyone else. They are reliable, everything is cleared at the end of the job and all the staff from start to finish are polite and professional. I was happy with the quotation given. The 2 guys who carried out the latest work were very pleasant and listened to what I said before beginning the work. I would definitely recommend them.

I have been most impressed with DTE's professionalism and integrity. The scope of work I proposed I discussed was reduced as it wasnt all needed, and the work itself was carried out to a high standard

This is an excellent company to do business with. Their quote was thorough and very competitive. The team turned up on time and were very professional, polite and respectful of both our property and our garden. The work undertaken, (tree prunning and removal of a large shrub), was carried out to a high standard and everything was left very tidy. I can only recommend this company for their excellent service.

This company is outstanding in professionalism, care and efficiency, so we didn’t hesitate in using for this job. The weather was bad on the day of the booking and we thought they might postpone the work, but they didn’t. Our job involved varied work - trees, bushes and hedges. Everything is in much better shape now. Thanks, again to Down to Earth.

I have used this company on 3 occasions now. I have found all staff including administrative and the tree surgeons themselves to be consistently efficient, polite and informative. They have always arrived at the arranged time and date, completed the work effectively and well and left the garden clean and clear of all cuttings. Have recommended to neighbours and friends.

Fantastic from start to finish, from the quoting process, application to local council for approval, and the people on site doing the work. Had two trees taken out, one planted and general hedge height reduction work done. Superb team, cleaned up after themselves, very polite to me and neighbours. Will be using again. Thank you!

Very professional. DTE did an excellent job reducing my large dead oak tree; and leaving everything in good order when they had finished the job.

We had one tree cut down, bushes cut back and a very high and difficult-to-reach ivy hedge trimmed neatly into a straight line. The team were brilliant; very punctual, tidy and polite and they did an excellent, professional job. Highly recommended.

One tree was felled, two pruned and large hedges cut back, all done neatly, quickly and exactly to my specifications. Everything was tidied away afterwards. I am more than happy with the result, and would definitely recommend this company.

Arrived on time, friendly professional team, did the job quickly, safely at height and went to considerable trouble to reduce any damage to plants or garden pots, ornaments etc. Left site cleared and tidy. Value for money. What more would you want ?

Very neat work. Professional and safe. We were happy with the quote. We had asked instead of grinding the root to put plugs in and were a little surprised that this was not included as the surveyor had suggested it during his visit
